This position is located at the Armed Forces Retirement Home-Washington. The Recreation Specialist (Team Leader) is responsible for establishing, developing, and implementing comprehensive social activities, bus trips, and entertainment which generates healthy lifestyles, encourages fellowship, boosts morale, and offers stimulation to a diverse senior population of approximately 500 Residents and provides the best quality of life available to them.

As a GS-9 Lead Recreation Specialist, you will:
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
For the GS-09, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service.
Specialized experience for this position includes:
- Provides assistance with arranging and carrying out trip/activities. AND
- Working cooperatively with volunteers assigned to recreation activities or trips.
OR
A related master's or equivalent graduate degree or two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D. Related degrees include: general recreation, or one of the appropriate fields of recreation such as outdoor recreation; recreation and parks leadership; wild land recreation management; natural resources recreation; youth recreation; public, urban, or community recreation; special populations recreation (e.g., senior citizens, institutional, etc.); or physical education.

You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Combining Education and Experience: When combining education with experience, first determine your total qualifying education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; then determine your experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; finally, add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify for that grade level. Only graduate education in excess of the first 18 semester hours (27 quarter hours) may be combined to be considered for qualifying education for positions at grade GS-9.
SPECIAL NOTE: Specialized training/education working with a geriatric population and/or therapeutic recreation is highly desired.
In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
For the GS-9, you must have been at the GS-7 level for 52 weeks
Time After Competitive Appointment: Candidates who are current Federal employees serving on a non-temporary competitive appointment must have served at least three months in that appointment.
