This position is located in the Immigrant and Employee Rights Section ("IER" or "Section") of the Civil Rights Division, U.S. Department of Justice, Washington, D.C. IER enforces the antidiscrimination provision (? 274B) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), 8 U.S.C. ? 1324b.

Duties

The incumbent will serve as a Lead Paralegal Specialist. Duties include, but are not limited to: Coach and facilitate the duties and responsibilities performed by paralegal specialists, by performing a wide range of coordinating and supporting duties and responsibilities. Report to the Special Litigation Counsels on accomplishments, problems, progress of team members and/or individuals in mastering tasks and work processes, and individual and team training needs. Provide technical assistance and advice to the team of paralegals regarding investigations, document and database management, litigation, enforcement and compliance techniques. Maintains a comprehensive knowledge of the INA's anti-discrimination provision. Devise, evaluate, and adapt previous fact finding and problem-solving methods to cope with voluminous documentation. Conduct and assist with witness interviews in English and Spanish.

Specialized Experience Requirements To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, candidates must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service or other pay system. Examples of specialized experience includes: Analyzing and reviewing case materials, such as documents obtained during an investigation, in matters under the Immigration and Nationality Act's anti-discrimination provision; AND Providing updates on the status of investigations, work assignments or results of research; AND Performing legal and factual research and preparing written work product based on that research. AND Selective Factor: Spanish. Candidates must possess a language proficiency of speaking, listening, reading, and writing English and Spanish. Language proficiency of at least Limited Working Proficiency, Plus (at least Level 2+, as defined in lnteragency Language Roundtable skill level descriptions (www.govtilr.org) in Spanish reading, writing, and speaking is a required qualification for this position. Applicants will be evaluated on their language skills. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is defined as experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): A Subject-Matter-Expert (SME) will evaluate your qualifications on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas.
