About the Position: This position is located in the US Army Aviation and Missile Command USATA, USA test, measurement and diagnostic equipment (TMDE) Spt Region West, Office of the Director, WSMR, FORT LEWIS TSC, Joint Base Lewis, McChord WA.

Duties

Serve as a Calibration Specialist in the parameters of electrical, electronic, microwave, nucleonic, optical/laser, physical and dimensional standards and measurements applicable to the calibration, certification and evaluation of TMDE. Calibrate and certify high precision calibration laboratory standards. Prepare calibration reports for customers including specific information for instruments being calibrated. Troubleshoot and repair to high precision calibration laboratory standards. Implement, adapt, modify, and develop technical procedures required by changing user or equipment requirements. Identify and document errors in existing procedures to provide information used for calibration and certification documents.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Appointment to this position may be subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • Must complete a pre-employment physical.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • This position requires regularly lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.

I have the ability to perform common tasks as a Precision Measurement Equipment Calibrator. I can perform calibration operations on various types of electronic, electrical and/or electromechanical measurement systems; interpret simple technical procedures and schematics in order to adapt them to calibration assignments; and diagnose or repair test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE). I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading)Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)Theory and Instruments (Electrical Electronic) Used in Shop and Trade PracticesTrouble Shooting Physical Efforts - The work may require long periods of standing or sitting along with some walking or bending during the course of extended periods on measurements. Requires frequent lifting, carrying, and handling of items weighing up to 40 pounds with occasional requirements to lift items in excess of 50 pounds. Working Conditions - The work is performed in laboratories and user facilities where technicians are exposed to the hazards of high voltage high pressure, high and low temperatures, chemicals and radiation. Calibrators must comply with all safety regulations applicable to the calibration mission.
