About the Position: Serves as a Test, Measurement, and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) supervisor responsible for supervising workers, directly or through leaders, in the calibration and repair of a wide range of calibration standards; occasionally adapting procedures; participating in studies and making tests to determine limitations of test equipment; and functions designed to increase the accuracy and effectiveness of the assigned calibration and repair program.
Duties
Plan the use of workers, equipment, facilities, materials, and tools on a project-to-project, week-to-week, or month-to-month basis.
Adhere to work priorities, project schedules, resources, and detailed work plans established by the supervisor.
Establish deadlines and ensure adherence to schedules and priorities; interpret technical policy, procedures, and regulations; and provide advice and assistance as required to resolve management problems and maintain continuity of work.
Advises customers relative to repair and calibration of test, measurement and diagnostic equipment.
Recommend changes to schedules, priorities, and work sequences as necessary and make minor deviations in procedures or redirect resources under his or her control to overcome unforeseen problems.
Set performance standards and makes formal appraisals of subordinate work performance.
Advise and counsel workers on how to improve performance and explain new work techniques.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent must be able to a pre-employment physical examination.
- This position may require the incumbent to travel up to 10% to perform duties/attend training.
- Incumbent may be required to serve a one-year supervisory probationary period.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
- Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
- Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50lbs is required.
- Term employment is subject to a one year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.
- This is a Term position scheduled to last 13 months. A term position may be extended to a maximum of six years depending upon the needs of management.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Precision Measurement Equipment Calibrator Supervisor without more than normal supervision. Ability to lead and supervise employees, perform difficult and complex Precision Measurement Equipment Calibrator tasks including calibrating electronic, electrical, and electromechanical measurements systems. Physical Efforts: The work may require long periods of standing or sitting along with some walking or bending during the course of extended periods on measurements. Requires frequent lifting, carrying, and handling of items weighing up to 40 pounds with occasional requirements to lift items in excess of 50 pounds.
Working Conditions: The work is performed in laboratories and user facilities where technicians are exposed to the hazards of high voltage, high pressure, high and low temperatures, chemicals and radiation. Calibrators must comply with all safety regulations applicable to the calibration mission.
