This position is located in the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Intelligence Division, Office of Special Intelligence, Data Management Section, Data Management Unit (NSDM), in Merrifield, VA.

As an INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST (DATA MGMT), your typical work assignments may include:
Serves as an expert for database management systems.
Participates in the planning of database expansion, enhancements, and selections.
Participates in the design of data mining and data warehousing systems to enhance data management.
Works with end users to establish and enforce database standards, procedures, and guidelines.
Designs and refines functional requirements; translates requirements into design specifications and determines best approaches for implementation.
Participate in the planning of future database expansion, enhancements, and selections.
Trains users on data analysis activities, processes, and applications.
Develops algorithms to format and standardize volume of records for multiple databases.
Conducts testing of IT equipment or software to maintain system configuration and resolve interface or interoperability problems.
Recommends upgrades for existing database systems.
Provides guidance to develop data aggregation, manipulation, and reporting procedures to achieve standardization of data collection.
Communicates with agency management or individuals of other government agencies and private industry as the technical authority on difficult and controversial data management problems.
Provides service to systems involving a wide variety of different platforms, operating systems, applications, and desktop configurations.
Investigates and examines complex issues or problems where the success of the project depends on the solutions.
Determines the applicability of Internet technologies and protocols to resolve recurring user problems or improve the potential utility of systems, networks or data.
Provides technical consultation in developing and integrating common sharing of data with other external entities intelligence and investigative organizations.
Ensures best date analysis and development methodologies are used according to emerging technologies and industry standards.
Requirements

Qualifications
Applicants must meet the specialized Experience requirements as noted below. Qualification claims will be subject to verification.
GS-12: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent GS-2210-11. Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience for this position includes: developing, monitoring, and maintaining database management system environments; assisting in the design and management of a database system; troubleshooting accessibility and availability problems, and providing IT support solutions; analyzing performance data of existing software or the design and development of new software; recommending changes to program plans and guidelines.
GS-13: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 Federal grade performing duties: evaluating and monitoring major database systems; performing physical database design, implementation, and testing; analyzing alternatives and recommending database upgrades and software packages; troubleshooting and resolving complex issues that involve networks or databases; developing and implementing policy changes that impact significant technology resource requirements; and providing technical training on data analysis activities..
