This position serves as a Visual Information Specialist, in the Justice Management Division, Budget Staff, Office of the Director located in Washington, DC. The Office is responsible for developing the data visualization platforms and products needed to communicate technical budget information into conceptual, relevant, and straightforward dashboards, visual tools, and reports for diverse audiences.

The Visual Information Specialist provides a robust data visualization platforms and products to translate complex business needs, requirements and strategy, multiple data sets and other data points into conceptual, relevant, and straightforward dashboards, visual tools, reports and analytical solutions. As a Visual Information Specialist, you will be responsible for: Developing and managing a variety of graphic designs and media products. Planning products and services that are professional, accurate, timely, clear, objective, fact-based, and balanced. Designing multi-color products using graphic design media tools and computer graphics/desktop publishing software applications.

Requirements

  • You must be a United States Citizen or National.

Qualifications

To qualify for the position of Visual Information Specialist at (GS-1084-11/12), you must meet the basic qualification requirements listed below AND possess the required specialized experience specific to this series and grade you're applying to. If you are a current or former government employee on a permanent appointment in the competitive service, you will need to demonstrate 1-year (52-weeks) at the next lower grade level, to meet the time-in-grade requirements for this occupational series and grade. Additionally, please ensure to submit an applicable SF50 (please refer to the "required documents" section for additional information). To qualify for the position of Visual Information Specialist (GS-1084-11/12), you must meet the basic qualification requirements listed below AND possess the required specialized experience specific to the series and grade you are applying to. BASIC REQUIREMENT: Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position. Some positions may also require subject-matter knowledge of medicine, science, or technical equipment. Advanced training in a vocational school, technical institute, or art institute above the high school level in one of the fields listed above is creditable as general experience on a month-for-month basis. OR Specialized Experience: Experience in the actual type of work for which application is made. Unpaid experience is creditable, provided the work done was of a quality level and demonstrated the ability required for the position. This includes planning the preparation and use of photographs, illustrations, drawings, and other art work, charts, diagrams, dioramas, maps, slides, overlays, and other kinds of visual material for use in communicating information through visual means. AND To qualify for the GS-1084-11: Specialized Experience: For the GS-11, you must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-09 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is defined as: Creating visual graphics or displays with computer software; Using graphic design industry tools to build data visualization dashboards, deliverables, or solutions; AND Creating data visualization reports. OR Education: A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.M, if related; OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and specialized experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. You must have some specialized experience as described above in number 1 but less than one year; and have more than two years, but less than three years of education as described in number 2. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the second year by 36. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. To qualify for the GS-1084-12: Specialized Experience: For the GS-12, you must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-11 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is defined as: Developing data visualization strategies or solutions to convey data information; Testing new materials to create data visualization products; AND Analyzing data visualization problems or process to recommend solutions. You MUST meet all qualification requirements, including Time-in-Grade, by the closing date of this announcement, 08/25/2023.
