The incumbent serves as the Customer Service Patient Representative in the Community Care Section for the VA New Jersey Healthcare System in East Orange, NJ.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** The incumbent works in the Community Care Section of the Business Office with direct accountability to the Section Supervisory Program Analyst. The purpose of the position is to work on behalf of the Veterans, their families and outside sources to resolve or minimize difficult and complex problems and questions with issues involving the Community Care process, with regard to problem resolution and patient advocacy within the Community Care Section. Knowledge of multiple systems and current computer technology regarding imaging applications, PC fax applications and numerous applications; Knowledge of process and procedures to be carried out and to provide information to non-VA providers, telephone triage and different services; Knowledge of medical terminology by the incumbent due to the technical nature of language utilized by most community care providers including physicians and hospitals; Knowledge of financial accounting system, to review and look up claims for various medical expenses; Ability to collaborate, communicate, set priorities and organize work, to meet deadlines, ensuring compliance with established processes, policies and regulations; Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively both orally and in writing to meet program objectives; Prepare reports in various formats and present data to various organization levels; Ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage time effectively; Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with all types of people; And all other duties as assigned Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: Not authorized Critical Skills Incentive (CSI): Not authorized Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-5) in Federal Service, that has provided the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of a Program Support Assistant. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: ability to collaborate, communicate, set priorities and organize work, meet deadlines, ensure compliance with established process, policies and regulations; communicate tactfully and effectively both orally and in writing to meet program objectives; prepare reports in various formats and present data to various levels. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hour worked per week. You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: Administration and ManagementConflict ManagementConscientiousnessCustomer Service (Clerical/Technical)Information Management IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary occasionally requires carrying of light objects such as files, books and papers; some walking standing and bending. No special physical qualifications are required.
