You will serve as a Safety and Occupational Health Specialist in the Fire Safety Group (304), Repair Department (TRF-300) of TRIREFFAC KINGS BAY.

Duties

You will Ensures adherence to the fire safety requirements, as delineated by NAVSEA requirements, governing Ship Safety. You will act as a Chairman for the Fire Safety Council (FSC) comprised of representatives from the Ship, Certified Test Engineer (CTE), Refit Manager, Shop Supervisor, Scheduler, AIT Team representative, and any providers to the ship. You will support periodic scheduled fire drills (minor and major) to test the ability of Ship's Force to respond to shipboard emergencies. You will approve the Safety of Ship Maintenance Item List (SOSMIL) as the FMA representative. You will coordinate departmental efforts to establish, maintain, and recover during periods requiring modified conditions of readiness to include but not limited to: Hurricane, Tornado, Thunderstorm, Electrical Storm, Black Flag, Freeze/Snow, etc.

  • This position may be assigned to any basic workweek, shift hours, and occasional overtime.
  • You must be able to obtain and maintain an IT-II designation.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: GS-12: Experience developing and implementing a coordinated Fire Safety Plan (FSP) and Memorandum of Agreement (MOA). Experience planning and monitoring large scale projects to assure compliance with safety objectives, standards and requirements. Experience identifying significant fire hazards and reporting unsafe conditions. Experience planning and conducting work that requires significant judgment in evaluating, selecting, and adapting precedents, and modifying procedures and criteria. Experience reviewing Safety of Ship maintenance items including evolutions having significant potential to impact the ship's watertight integrity or damage control to ensure ship safety. Experience developing, analyzing, and interpreting a full range of technical data. Experience providing guidance and training such as Fire Watch, CASCON, and Disaster Preparedness training. GS-11: Experience ensuring firefighting temporary equipment, material, and facilities are maintained and inspected according to requirements. Experience identifying hazardous conditions created by proposed actions, resolving conflicts, and disapproving actions as necessary to maintain ship conditions. Experience preventing of, detecting, and responding to fires onboard Navy vessels during industrial work to ensure safety of equipment and personnel. Experience reviewing and approving daily safety of ship plans in non-fire related areas. Experience evaluating technical data such as specifications, schematics, and test reports. Education

Substitution of Education:
Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
OR
Successful completion of three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree
