The New Mexico VA Healthcare System is recruiting for a Health Technician assigned to Nursing Specialty Service, Specialty Clinic Section providing medical, and administrative support assistance in the Nursing Specialty Clinics by performing technical and administrative tasks such as EKGs, ABls, bladder ultrasounds, PFTs, venipuncture, wound care, ear irrigation, scheduling appointments, enters consult requests for specialty services, schedules appointments with ancillary/specialty services.
Duties
Duties include but not limited to:
Update patient demographic information in VISTA as appropriate
Perform technical task such as EKGs, ABIs, bladder ultrasounds, PFTs, venipuncture, wound care, ear irrigation, and monofilament foot exam.
Perform administrative task such as scheduling appointments, enter consult request for specialist services, enter request for labs and x-rays into CPRS.
Collect and process specimen samples.
Work Schedule: Work Schedule: The tour of duty will rotate weekly, one week is 0700-1530 and the other is 0800-1630

Physical Requirements: The work requires frequent walking, standing, stooping, lifting, bending, stretching, pushing, turning and at times lifting heavy equipment and/or patients. Good vision and hearing are required to collect patient data.
Working Conditions: The work involves regular and recurring exposure to infection and contagious diseases. incumbents work Involves face-to-face contacts with patients to obtain specimens and deliver them to the laboratory, take vital signs, remove and change wound dressings, administer injections, assist patients in dressing and undressing for medical examinations, and transferring them to and from hospital beds. The incumbent is required lo observe Infection control procedures and policies.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
GS-06 grade level: One year of specialized experience to the next lower grade level (GS-05). Specialized experience includes but is not limited to: setting up equipment for procedures; performing personal patient care; and utilizing an automated system to enter and retrieve patient data.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
