The ICC is primarily responsible for the administrative and supervisory aspects of the Infection Control Program; reviewing, planning and coordinating its implementation. He/she directly supervises the MDRO Coordinator, the Program Support Assistant, Infection Preventionists and Infection Control Nurses, including coordinating the duties and activities of all of them daily.

Duties

Planning, executing, coordinating, and monitoring infection prevention and control across services. Perform organizational coordination including administrative responsibilities, patient care management, performance improvement and environmental issues. Provide expertise in surveillance and epidemiologic investigations. Participates in the Joint Commission accreditation inspections and participate in those inspections by preparing and presenting details of the Infection Control Program as. Maintains a network of the infection Preventionists within the Veteran's Health Administration and the community for sharing ideas, problem-solving and improving the practice of infection control. Uses an epidemiological framework to develop a comprehensive surveillance program based on current recommendations and findings from research. Collects and analyzes infection prevention and control data and present findings to workgroups, committees, and external agencies. Collaborates with other health professionals to ensure comprehensiveness and continuity of health care for patient care planning. Conducts educational classes for clinical and non-clinical staff on infection prevention and control and related environmental hazards. Teach and supervise staff to assure that communicable diseases are reported in accordance to state and federal regulations, and HIPPA requirements. Responsible for development and supervision of an orientation program for new infection Preventionists in the Program and, once oriented, provide ongoing mentoring and professional development. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/05/2023. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-13 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-12. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR(S) (1) Must be proficient in spoken and written English. (2) Must be proficient in spoken Spanish. Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR) Basic Requirements Education Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained. Evaluation of Experience for Grants Administration Positions: For positions at grades GS-12 and above involved in professional work in grants administration, qualifying experience is considered to be experience in grants administration in areas of science, medical and healthcare fields similar or related to the work of the position. Such experience must have involved professional judgment of a kind and level of difficulty and responsibility essential to successful performance in the position to be filled. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-12 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: planning, executing, coordinating, and monitoring infection prevention and control across services. Perform organizational coordination including administrative responsibilities, patient care management, performance improvement and environmental issues. Provide expertise in surveillance and epidemiologic investigations. Physical Requirements: Work is primarily sedentary, but does require some periods of standing, walking and bending.
