Incumbent will function as an independent research investigator within the Research and Development Service of the VA Caribbean Healthcare System. The plans should lead to the submission of a research grant application for consideration by the Merit Review Board of the Veterans Health Administration (VHA).

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Major Duties: Originates hypothesis, develops research protocols and plans sophisticated experiments to be conducted by staff under incumbent' s direction. Complete calculation, tabulation, graph making, and statistical analysis of the data obtained. Be responsible for the interpretation of findings as well as for the preparation of abstracts and manuscripts. Interprets data and uses results of this work as the basis for generating manuscripts for publication, reports, papers, and presentations for scientific meetings. Directs technical staff involved in this research program. Presents original scientific data to professional and research societies at local, national and/or international meetings. Serves as editor/reviewer for scientific journals, reviews research proposals for funding agencies. Ensure that all studies proposed are carried out to completion under the appropriate conditions and will participate directly in the performance of such experiments. Keep abreast in his/her area(s) of interest(s), actively participate in current professional development activities, offer conferences in health-related fields, and participate in student training. Provides professional advice to members of the medical profession in laboratory diagnosis and interpretation of laboratory findings related to neuroscience. Participates as a member of the Research and Development Committee or the Institutional Review Board of this Institution. Serve as a consultant that foster productivity in research and health-related fields. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications

Individual Occupational Requirements (Basic Education Requirements) Possess a Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education: https://ope.ed.gov/dapip/#/home at the time the degree was obtained. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED) AND In addition to meeting the Basic Education Requirements above, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications Requirement below for this position. For GS-13: Possess at least one (1) full year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level of (GS-12) in Federal service. Specialized experience in calculation, tabulation, graph making, and statistical analysis of the data obtained; providing an interpretation of findings as well as for the preparation of abstracts and manuscripts; developing of new methods, approaches, or procedures in the design, development, and coordination of research projects or clinical studies. This position includes a Selective Placement Factor (skill, knowledge, ability or other worker characteristic basic to - and essential for - satisfactory performance of the job). Selective Placement Factors are a prerequisite to appointment and represent minimum requirements for a position. Applicants who do not meet it are ineligible for further consideration.
