This vacancy is for a Supervisory Security Specialist in the Office of Intelligence and Security within the Department of Commerce. Positions may be available in Gaithersburg, MD and Washington, DC. Duties

As a Supervisory Security Specialist, you will perform the following duties: Manage and/or directly support various security functions to include personnel, information, physical, communications, industrial, and continuity and emergency management Confer with, assist, and advise bureau management and other senior staff on security precedents, planning and policy development Evaluate and recommend measures designed to safeguard personnel to prevent unauthorized access to equipment, facilities, material, and documents; and to safeguard them against espionage, sabotage, damage, and theft Manage all aspects of the Foreign Visitor Access Programs Advise customers and leadership on security policies, procedures, and regulations This Job Opportunity Announcement may be used to fill other Supervisory Security Specialist ZA-0080-4 FPL-4 positions within the Office of the Secretary in the same geographical location with the same qualifications and specialized experience.

Qualifications

Qualification requirements in the vacancy announcements are based on the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook, which contains federal qualification standards. This handbook is available on the Office of Personnel Management's website located at: https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/ Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The ZA-04 is equivalent to the GS-13/14 grade levels. Supervisors are eligible for supervisory performance pay, increasing their salaries by up to six percent higher than the maximum rate of their pay bands (achievable through pay for performance increases only). To qualify at the ZA-04 level: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the ZA-03 or GS-12 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as: Advising senior management and key stakeholders on a wide range of security activities and programs, such as personnel, information, physical, and/or continuity and emergency management. Developing and implementing security polices to ensure adherence to program requirements and regulations. Advising customers and leadership on security policies, procedures, and regulations.
