The USBG is comprised of nearly 70 positions across four divisions: Administrative, Learning and Engagement, Horticulture, and Operations. Duties

The Education Specialist develops, implements and facilitates online education programs and products that fulfill the USBG's mission. The Education Specialist also is a liaison for education collaborations and must have flexibility in work schedule.

Requirements

Qualifications

You must meet the United States Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) qualification requirements (including specialized experience and/or educational requirements) for the advertised position. ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTSIn addition to meeting the basic entry qualification requirements, applicants must have had either specialized experience and/or directly related education in the amounts shown below. Education and experience may be combined to meet the total experience requirements. Candidates for the GS-09 grade level must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service.Specialized experience for this position includes: (1) Developing and facilitating online based education and/or training programs. (2) Creating course materials to be used in classes, trainings, workshops, seminars, internet-based training and/or multimedia platforms. (3) Evaluating online program activities and making recommendations for improvement. (4) Developing online programs and teaching using inquiry-and object-based learning techniques. (5) Recommending lessons and materials for online educational programming suitable for a public garden and museum. (6) Drafting educational content, goals and curriculums for online educational programs. --OR-- Qualifying on Education: You may substitute education for experience for this position. Your education must consist of two years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master’s degree or equivalent graduate degree. Must be related to the duties of the position. Candidates for the GS-11 grade level must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service. (1) Developing and facilitating online based education and training programs. (2) Creating course materials to be used in classes, trainings, workshops, seminars, internet-based training and/or multimedia platforms. (3) Evaluating online program activities and making recommendations for improvement. (4) Developing online programs and teaching using inquiry-and object-based learning techniques. (5) Implementing updates and improvements to lessons, materials and learning management system elements for online educational programming suitable for a public garden and museum. (6) Developing educational content, goals and curriculums for online educational programs. Qualifying on Education: You may substitute education for experience for this position. Your education must consist of three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or equivalent doctoral degree.  Must be related to the duties of the position.

Education

BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: 

All applicants must have the following:

A. Successful completion of a full four-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included or was supplemented by major field of study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position.

--OR--

B. Combination of education and experience----courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the four-year course study described above.

Special Instructions for Foreign Education

Education completed outside of the United States must be deemed equivalent to that gained in conventional/accredited U.S. education programs to be acceptable for Federal employment.

Qualifying education from colleges and universities in foreign countries must be evaluated in terms of equivalency to that acquired in U.S. colleges and universities. Applicants educated in whole or in part of foreign countries must submit sufficient evidence, including transcripts, to an accredited private organization for an equivalency evaluation of course work and degree.

You must provide a copy of the letter containing the results of the equivalency evaluation with a course-by-course listing if selected.
