The Wood Crafter's primary purpose is to perform the full range of tasks associated with installation, maintenance, renovation, and repair of all structures; walls, ceilings, doors, floors, masonry, and furniture.
Duties
Incumbent performs interior and exterior building operations, repair and maintenance work. Duties include work involved in constructing, altering, maintaining, and repairing buildings, metal and wood doors and door frames, structures, partitions, panels, tool cabinets, bookcases, work benches, and other items using wood, wood substitutes, and composite building materials or maintaining, installing repairing, and weatherproofing roofs.
Incumbent performs carpentry work using independent judgments and decisions, and the work requires little supervisory review. Duties include but not limited to:
Measures, cuts, constructs, installs, repairs and modifies routine millwork, framing, benches, partitions, tables, furniture, etc.
Makes and repairs high-grade decorative woodwork for use in homes, offices, and other public facilities.
Fabricates and constructs high-grade wooded items such as cabinets, furniture, and orthopedic devices
Operates and uses a variety of tools by setting-up, adjusting, and maintaining tools to meet required specifications.
Constructs walls, sidewalks, chimneys, fireplaces, manholes, and boilers.
Uses a variety of brick, block, stone, adobe, and related structures.
Lays complex, curved, circular structures.
Shapes and finishes stone.
Identifies and traces leaks and pinpoints leaks.
Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.
Minimum requirement: Experience performing various duties related to ground maintenance, equipment operator, masonry work, and operator/laborer work. NOTE: This position (Wood Crafter) will perform various tasks involved in interior and exterior maintenance and repair of buildings, renovations and repair of floors furniture, walls and doors. Applying knowledge of work practices and methods involved with variety of trades, masonry, millwork, carpentry, constructing, altering, at the journeyman level; applying practical knowledge of the principles of equipment assembly, using complex measuring instruments, operating tools and equipment or machines of varying degrees of difficulty; applying basic mathematics to shop math; repairing and diagnosing complex equipment/systems and electronic equipment; making complex modifications as directed by factory recall to standard equipment at the manufacturer's request; and overseeing vendor service contracts.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Incumbent works in tiring positions for prolonged periods; frequent standing, bending and stooping, crouching and arm movement; frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 45 pounds, and may occasionally lift heavier items with assistance. Incumbent usually works in a machine shop or enclosed area, which may be unheated; frequently exposed to eye, skin, nose and lung irritations from glue, bonding chemicals, vapors, splinters, and sawdust; possibility or receiving cuts and serious injuries such as loss of fingers from accidents while operating woodworking machines. Incumbent wears or uses safety clothing and equipment and may work in inclement weather.
