Located within Medical Administrative Service, the Program Support Assistant position is a highly public one that requires exceptional customer service skills. The incumbent must maintain appropriate rapport with internal and external customers to facilitate the accomplishment of medical center goals and mission. Duties
The program support assistant, GS-0303-06, will perform a variety of functions including patient enrollment, eligibility verification, means test, beneficiary travel, patient funds, details, off/on station transfers-referrals, and off station consolations. Additional duties and responsibility mas be assigned to support the organizational duties of the Medical Administration Service. Duties for this position include but are limited to:
Correspondence and report preparation
Clerical program functions
Beneficiary travel
Patient funds
Details
Off Station Consultations
On/Off station transfers/referrals
Eligibility for healthcare
Utilize PC software for a wide range of correspondence concerning authorization, payment denials and request for additional information
Review correspondence from a diverse group of customers that may include veterans, veteran's families, physicians, vendors and congressional inquiries
Compose and prepare correspondence for the purpose of providing or obtaining general information
Provide general explanations of facts or actions taken based upon requested materials, often related to complex and sensitive requests
Accounting duties involving the Beneficiary travel program including verification of payments, reviewing and analyzing bills, and conducting audits as needed
Analyze data and extract required information for reports
Ensuring claimants are informed of their appeal rights
Prepare and assemble documents to support Statements of the Case for submission to the Board of Veterans Appeals and/or Congressional inquiries
Other duties as assigned
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8:00am - 4:30pm

Physical Requirements: The work involved is primarily sedentary in nature. Some walking, standing, bending, and carrying of light items is involved in hand delivery and pick up of documents and files. Mental concentration and sustained performance under prolonged stress is required because of the time factors involved in completing work within set deadlines.

GS-06 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes:
Responsible for providing administrative support; collecting, compiling and tracking data and information;
Processing documents and reports;
Establishing, updating and maintaining office files and records;
Performing automation duties using such software applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, electronic mail, desktop publishing, calendar, database and/or graphics;
Answering telephones, referring visitors, and providing information.
There is no educational substitution for the GS-06 level.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
