About the Position:This position is in the Naval Medical Center Office of Dir of Surgery, OB/GYN, San Diego, California. San Diego is a city on the Pacific coast of California known for its beaches, parks and warm climate. Immense Balboa Park is the site of the San Diego Zoo, as well as numerous art galleries, art studios museums and gardens. A deep harbor is the Home to a large active naval fleet, with the USS Midway an aircraft-carrier-turned-museum, open to the public.

Duties

Answer clinic telephones, greets patients, answers patient's questions about appointment time, TRICARE benefits, waiting times, clinic services and other general questions not related to diagnosis or treatment. Prepare and activates the master appointment schedule for the clinic according to the guidelines dictated in the procedure manual, making changes as needed. Attend and completes annual renewal of command required training provided by military treatment facility (MTF). Route consultation forms to the appropriate provider or service. follow established safety practices by proper use and storage of equipment. Administer topical medications. Reports and records any reaction to medication and/or treatment. Promote self-care and assists in the dissemination of information to patients regarding discharge instructions, health promotion, disease prevention, and wellness as outlined in clinic education program.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • This position requires regular contact with children under the age 18 and a favorable determination of suitability to do so.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 30 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes interviewing the patient and soliciting general health and ocular history; aid in the treatment of patients; utilize an automated systems to schedule or reschedule appointments, receive/greets incoming patients, answer telephone and refer calls as needed. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Patient Care. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
