About the Position: This position is a Laundry Worker assigned to the Laundry Division, Operating Management Department, Naval Hospital, San Diego, California

Duties

Pick up soiled linen. Load dirty linen into hand trucks working from a conveyor belt. Weigh loaded trucks on scales to assure accurate weight. Place truck loads on the loading dock for pick-up. Clean linen area. Sort, fold, and stack articles by item and by color. Check articles for damage and place in mending basket for repair.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires shift work weekends/Holidays are required.
• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
• This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
• This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.

Working Conditions: Work is performed inside building and on receiving and shipping dock in all kinds of weather. The area may be cold, drafty, humid, damp, or hot. Work is performed in close quarters in building or bin aisles, ramps, or platforms. Is exposed to moving laundry trucks, possibility of bruises from handling materials on materials handling equipment. Worker is exposed repeatedly to contaminate linen materials. Must wear protective masks, gloves, and gowns when handling laundry from patients with contagious diseases. Worker must be tactful and take precautions to preclude interfering with patient care when making deliveries.
