As a Advance Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner), with a Family nurse practitioner certification, the incumbent performs a broad range of complex clinical research care for NIMH clinical protocols, and supports the care and research activities of patients participating in clinical research protocols. The patient population is primarily pediatric, and patients with developmental disabilities.
Duties
The incumbent will serve as the senior Advance Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner) within the NBPS, to include duties but not limited:
Independent responsibility for ensuring that high quality patient care is delivered to all patients participating in protocols,
Ensuring that protocol administration and research data collection are conducted according to high standards,
Coordinating clinical care and research activities for research participants.
Providing diagnostic assessments and appropriate interventions for patient populations.
Educating and counseling patients, families, and significant others.
Promoting the effective and continued participation of patients in protocols.
Requirements

Qualifications
In order to qualify for an Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner), GS-610 position, you must:
Education Requirement:
A.Have a graduate or higher-level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position. While at least a 4 graduate or higher-level degree in nursing is required, a family Nurse Practitioners certification is preferred.
NOTE: Degree from a Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
AND
Examination Requirement:
B. Have passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN).
AND
Licensure Requirement:
C. Have a current, active, full and unrestricted license, or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States in the clinical specialty required by the position.
AND
Additional Requirements:
In addition, in order to qualify for an Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner) position at the GS-610-12 level, you must have at least 1 year of professional nursing experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: predicting and analyzing trends in patient conditions and developing a patient management plan in response to the data obtained; performing procedures and clinical interviews and evaluate and interpret findings; providing patient and family counseling and health education; attending patient care rounds and conferences; serving in formal or informal leadership positions, such as preceptor to graduate students and Nurse Practitioners new to the organization.
In addition, in order to qualify for an Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner) position at the GS-610-13 level, you must have at least 1 year of professional nursing experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: Identifies, interviews, screens, and help recruit patients for entry onto studies, maintains thorough knowledge of clinical trial requirements, and ensures that protocol requirements are clearly communicated; assists in the design of new protocols, provide and elicit input concerning the impact of the research; analyze and interpret data generated from the clinical trials; identify opportunities for program improvement to support patients participating in research; secure health and developmental histories from patients; record findings and making critical evaluations; perform or request special screening or developmental tests, or laboratory tests and interpret the results; make decisions concerning medical or nursing care needs of patients.
