The Program Support Assistant (PSA) performs supporting activities to the Secretary to the Director under the direction of the Associate Director of Patient Care Services/Nurse Executive (ADPCS). The PSA will work closely with the ADPCS, Nursing Administrative Officer, and Nursing Leadership to manage smooth and continuous functioning of the clinical and administrative day to day business of Nursing Services.
Duties
The VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers. Major Duties:
Responsible for nursing boarding actions database management.
Develops and maintains Standard Operating Procedures for nurse boarding actions.
Arranges records and minutes for storage, reference, and retrieval.
Types and prepares letters/correspondence, creates reports, memoranda, and other general office documents using basic word processing software.
Performs a wide variety of administrative tasks associated with proficiencies, and nurse boarding actions, and Human Resources interactions such as clarification follow-up and reconsideration.
Processes incoming and outgoing materials such as correspondence, reports, memoranda and other forms of written documentation.
Prepares reports utilizing appropriate software and databases to analyze and evaluate procedural areas of improvement and recommend solutions to the Nursing Service leadership.
Prepares meeting agendas and minutes for the Nursing Recruitment and Retention Committee.
Processes Awards (special contribution awards, star awards etc.).
Work Schedule: The tour of duty for this position is typically Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. Additional information may be provided during the interview process.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
GS-06 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: Providing administrative support; collecting, compiling and tracking data and information; processing documents and reports; establishing, updating and maintaining office files and records; performing automation duties using such software applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, calendar, database and/or graphics; answering telephones, referring visitors, and providing information.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: The work is predominantly sedentary. There may be walking, standing, bending, and moving or carrying of light items such as files and documents (0-20 pounds). No special physical demands are required to perform work.
