The New Mexico VA Healthcare System is recruiting for a Intermediate Care Technician assigned to the Emergency Department (ED). The incumbent will perform ongoing patient care duties in the ED.

Duties

Perform observation-based screening and collecting patient information in collaboration with licensed personnel. Complete approved templates and tools, for example the MiniCog screening established by the agency. Assist in behavioral/psychiatric situations in an emergency setting. Assist ED licensed personnel with the delivery of care to patients with complex, specialized, and potentially life-threatening situations. Observe patient status and keeps licensed personnel informed of any change in condition. Clinical responsibilities include but are not limited to: Vital signs, Point-of-care (POC), Observations and interventions, Specimen collection and Preparation, and Wound care. Administer medication. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/01/2023. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. This position has an Individual Occupation Requirement (IOR). You must meet one of the following: Possess the technician experience that requires application of knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. (This position is part of the series that range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists.) In addition to meeting the IOR above, you must meet the experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Have one (1) or more years of specialized experience related to this position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience includes, but is not limited to: performing patient screening; observing and communicating with patients and visitors; performing specimen collection; assisting with patient exams; and performing vital signs and wound care. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed one full year of graduate education. OR, Combination: Have a combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. My percentage of the required education plus my percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Clinical Data Collection/DocumentationEmergency CarePatient Care Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work requires a level of physical fitness that allows for standing for extended periods, heavy lifting to position patients, and m anual dexterity to perform clinical procedures. The work will require recurrent bending, lifting, stooping, standing, squatting, stretching, sitting and walking.
