This position serves as the Customer Service Ambassador/Patient Transporter, assigned to the Center for Development and Civic Engagement (CDCE) Service at the VA Central California Health Care System (VACCHCS). The incumbent works under the supervision of the Customer Service Ambassador/Patient Transport Supervisor, CDCE Service at VACCHCS.
Duties
Major duties include:
Responsible for forward greeting, wayfinding and information receptionist for all Veterans, patients, and visitors.
Greet all Veterans, visitors and staff with a smile and respect.
Promote a culture of caring and positive first impression, determine Veterans and/or visitors' needs and respond to those needs in a timely manner. Be knowledgeable of extensive services and process throughout the hospital, to appropriately assist or direct patients and visitors.
Responsible for transporting patients via wheelchairs, gurneys, and people mover cart in a safe and timely manner to appointments and testing throughout the hospital.
Respond to dispatch requests from all clinical and administrative offices to include patient, specimen, medication, and morgue transport requests.
Assist with transfer to/from beds, gurneys, wheelchairs, people mover cart and vehicles in a safe manner.
Assist with CDCE programs outside of the Customer Service/Patient Transport Program.
Work Schedule: Will vary based on facility needs. Multiple tours available in a 24/7 operation

Physical Requirements: The regular and recurring work of the position involves prolonged standing, extensive walking, bending, lifting, patient transfers, carrying items such as walkers and equipment, pushing wheelchairs and gurneys, and driving people mover shuttle cart. Occasional working parties involving loading and unloading of donations, supplies & equipment for on-site and community events. Occasional use of motor vehicles may be required.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
GS-05 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes:
Provide excellent customer service to a wide variety of patrons.
Provide accurate information on organization's services and processes to assist patrons.
Administrative work in assisting a program.

Applicants may substitute education for the experience required for the GS-05 level. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have completed 4 years above high school.
OR
Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at the GS-05 level. To calculate, first identify the percentage of required education you have earned (when substituting, you cannot use the first 60 semester hours that you earned). Then identify the percentage of required experience you possess. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify at the GS-05. For example, an applicant who has 9 semester hours of graduate level education (i.e. 50% of graduate education required) and 6 months of creditable specialized experience (i.e. 50% of the required experience) would equal 100% of the required experience for the position A transcript must be submitted with your application if you are basing all or part of your qualifications on education.
