This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, National Maritime Center, Mariner Evaluation Division, in Martinsburg, WV.
Duties
This position is located at the USCG National Maritime Center (NMC) Martinsburg, WV, an independent Headquarters Field Command. The incumbent is the Branch Chief of the Safety and Suitability Evaluation Branch (SSEB) and serves as the Mariner Credentialing Program (MCP) expert on the safety and suitability vetting processes. Responsible for the supervision of the processes involved in the background investigations of all Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) applicants, including comprehensive criminal record reviews, referral of positive drug test results for action, national driver registry search results, immigration documentation, and the review of applicants' disclosure of all such items on the applications.

- This position requires a Secret clearance.
Qualifications
At the GS-12 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the federal service.
Specialized experience is the experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include: Knowledge, skills and abilities to carry out supervisory responsibilities for the workforce; and analyze situations and prepare solutions to problems. Ability to adapt quickly to changes in regulations and procedures or to interruptions, which may disrupt the workflow. Working knowledge of personnel investigations, vetting regulations and policy. Obtaining court documents, or other legal records; contacting local law enforcement authorities for clarifying information; and reviewing or interpreting information entered into the investigative report software and law enforcement databases used by the safety and suitability team.

Student Loan Incentive: Job Announcement Verbiage, Selectee(s) for this position who are newly appointed to a permanent or term position may be eligible for student loan repayment up to $10,000 (pre-tax) for one calendar year.
