About the Position: Position may be filled as a temporary promotion or temporary reassignment not to exceed one year by a current permanent Army employee. Temporary promotions or reassignments may be extended up to a maximum of five years and may be made permanent without further competition.
Duties
Conduct electrical and operational tests of completed systems and assess the impact that specific repairs may have on the total system.
Connect major components to specialized test sets and test equipment.
Provide assistance to lower grade employees on test and repair problems.
Troubleshoot, isolate, and repair operational malfunctions in complex electronic equipment and systems.
Work with engineering and quality assurance personnel on matters as incorrect or incomplete repair and test specifications, fabrications, and modifications to correct repeated faults in assessed equipment.
Requirements
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain the Associate Level Certified Electronics Technician certification per Electronics Technicians Association, International, within two (2) years of placement into the position.
- This position requires shift work and overtime to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
- Successfully complete and pass a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an ELECTRONICS MECHANIC without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common duties to include resolving simple problems in areas with proven work times and procedures, identifying tooling needed for production, collecting information and recommendations concerning faulty specifications and repeated malfunctions. I can assist employees at the next lower level. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.

PHYSICAL EFFORTS: Considerable standing and bending required when performing work at bench. Installation work requires bending, stooping, and climbing within and outside shelters. Required to lift equipment weighing up to about 40 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Normally works inside well-lighted, heated, and ventilated shop area. Work outside is performed in good weather conditions, if possible, but is required to work in adverse weather conditions on priority items. Exposed to possibility of serious burns caused by electrical shock, RF energy, hot components, and to microwave radiation. Subject to cuts, bruises, and scrapes from handling equipment and tools. Subject to travel as a member of a maintenance team.
