About the Position: Serves as a Security Guard for the protection of government personnel, property, and technologies located at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.
This position is restricted to persons entitled to Veterans Preference. If there are no Veterans Preference eligible applicants available, non-preference applicants may be considered.
Duties
Independently performs installation access control for pedestrians and vehicles utilizing standard operating procedures, written orders and regulatory requirements as a guide to assess determination for a wide range of unique circumstances.
Detains violators, identifies witnesses and renders first aid to the injured commensurate with training and certifications.
Operates and performs research queries on the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) workstation terminal(s) in accordance with (IAW) federal and state laws.
First responders are subject to emergency recall and provide immediate response to active shooter and other situations such as terrorist threats, national emergencies and natural disasters.
Patrols designated areas by vehicle or foot to check perimeter locks, fence gates and restricted areas.
Requirements
- This position requires a Secret security clearance.
- Must submit to a pre-employment physical and maintain a level of physical fitness.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug test and random testing thereafter. Must sign DA Form 5019-R.
- This position has been designated as Mission Essential; in the event of severe weather conditions that result in the installation being closed for normal business operations, you are still required to report for or remain on duty.
- The position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
- This position requires shift work and rotating shifts.
- This position may require both planned and unscheduled overtime.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to obtain and maintain a valid Driver's License.
- This position has a requirement to carry a firearm and remain proficient in the use of assigned weapon.
- This position requires certification in CPR.
- This position requires the incumbent to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain state certification for operating the NCIC terminals.
- In accordance with AR 190-56, must meet the requirements of Individual Reliability Program apply.
- Incumbent must wear prescribed uniform.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience which includes performing vehicle searches, confiscating unauthorized items, responding to critical incidents, verifying identification, controlling access to premises, and providing information on regulation, policies or procedures. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
