This position is part of the Plant Operations, Government Publishing Office in Washington, District of Columbia.
Duties
Proofreads, marks up and revises typographical, spelling, and style errors.
Manually and or electronically prepares copies for typesetting in accordance with appropriate style manuals.
Revises galley corrections and page proofs; Troubleshoots files to identify and fix errors.
Utilizes Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML), Extensible Markup Language (XML) and associated programs to proofread and typeset government publications.
Operates video keyboard terminals to produce databases.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship is Required.
- Selectee must pass a drug test prior to appointment.
- Males born after 12/03/59 must be registered for Selective Service.
- Selectee may be required to serve a one year probationary period
- Selectee must be able to obtain and maintain a suitability clearance.
- Physical Effort: The work is generally sedentary and involves a combination of sitting and standing.

To qualify for the Proofreader/Keyboarder, KI -4403-00, you must meet the following requirements:
To minimally qualify for the KI-4403-00 level, you must meet the requirement below: Applicants must meet Screen Out/Job Element #1: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision: Proofreading, marking up and revising typographical, spelling, style errors and operating video keyboard manuals.
Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)
Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (other than blueprint reading).
Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
