Duties

Typical work assignments will include: Participating in planning, writing and editing news releases, feature and non-legal articles for publication for appropriate print media. Developing written communication materials that convey information concerning a range of subjects related to US Attorney's Office (USAO) programs, cases, and priorities. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with groups, including the Massachusetts media market, interested in or affected by USAO priorities, programs and policies. Assisting in the research and preparation of talking points, speeches and other material for leadership in preparation for public appearances. Assist with maintaining effective USAO social media presence. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements

  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation

Qualifications

Applicants must possess and demonstrate in their application packages that they meet the following minimum qualifications: To qualify for the GS-07 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions: Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level. Specialized experience is defined as: 1) assisting with composing and editing written material on routine events of non-controversial subjects; 2) experience developing new information materials including digital strategies campaigns, fact sheets, brochures, booklets, broadcast spots, etc., that increase communication with the agency's audiences; 3) conducting research, compiling data and correspondence; 4) developing or maintaining a professional relationship with an array of media sources. Education: One full year of graduate education in a closely related field (e.g., Communications, Public Administration, Public Relations, Public affairs or Political Science) OR Completion of a full four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree AND meet one of the following superior academic achievement provisions: (1) a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher for all completed undergraduate course work or for all courses completed in the last two full years of undergraduate work; (2) a GPA of 3.5 or higher for all courses in the major field of study, or those courses in a major completed in the last two full years of undergraduate work; (3) ranking in the upper one-third of a college, university, or major subdivision or (4) membership in a national scholastic honor society. In order to be creditable under this provision, superior academic achievement must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualify for the position to be filled. Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. To qualify for the GS-09 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions: Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level. Specialized experience is defined as: (1) planning, designing, preparing, editing and evaluating news releases; (2) using of a variety of research methods to prepare speeches and presentations on complex matters; (3) coordinating, organizing and planning media events; (4) developing or maintaining professional relationships with news media in a major media market; (5) experience developing digital strategy campaigns using diverse digital media platforms and tools (such as Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Google Analytics, and content management systems) to drive public awareness, disseminate public interest and public safety information; (6) experience planning communication plans, events and outreach .Applicants may also qualify based on education. Education: One of the following types of education in a related field (e.g., Communications, Public Administration, Public Relations, Public affairs or Political Science): a Master's or equivalent graduate degree; OR two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 1 full year. Writing sample may be required at the time of interview. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies. If your agency has notified you in writing that you are a displaced employee eligible for ICTAP consideration, you may receive selection priority if: 1) this vacancy is within your ICTAP eligibility; 2) you apply under the instructions in the announcement; and 3) you are found well-qualified for this vacancy.
