Duties
Provides planning and development of the BOPNet network based operating systems that will support the mission critical functions of the Bureau of Prisons. Performs as supervisory computer specialist responsible for the day-to-day operation of all computer systems assigned to the central office server farm. Plans, organizes, and directs the efforts of computer programmers and computer specialists assigned in all activities required to produce a working system, such as programming, testing, implementation, backup and recovery, network trouble shooting, system diagnostics, writing Bureau policy statements, technical reference manuals, operations memorandums, and user procedures. Serves as key contact and makes periodic reports on the status of a project for IT and senior BOP management.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements: Education There is no substitution of education for specialized experience for this position. OR Experience You must have IT related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.

AND Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience at the next lower GS grade level or equivalent. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the qualifications to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Such experience is typically gained in the IT field or through the performance of work where the primary concern is IT. Some examples of this qualifying experience are:
Experience in design, configuration, and implementation of local and wide area Novell network servers.
Experience in resolving network problems through equipment configuration changes, hardware replacement and operating system upgrades.
Experience planning, organizing and implementing highly complex and state of the art backup and recovery procedures for local and national network file systems and GroupWise database.
Experience in analyzing computer systems for quality, suitability to organization’s needs, reliability, etc., and performing benchmark tests of proposed new systems.

Applicants must have technical experience, within the last twelve months, to manage a network operation system for the following: Novell SUSE Linux 10 or higher; Novell Open Enterprise Server (OES); ZenWorks 7 suite or higher; Novell eDirectory version 8.8 or higher; Microsoft Office 365 or higher; HP Storage Area Network Management; Configuration of HP Chassis and Blade Servers; Working knowledge of Microsoft Server 2012 or higher Hyper-V Virtualization; And Microsoft SQL Database systems.
