Duties
Typical work assignments will include:
Maintains the automated records for civil and criminal cases;
Extracts requested statistical data on a regular basis;
Inputs new information to the database;
Submits and retires electronic records to the National Archives Records Administration (NARA) records center;
Assists legal assistants in obtaining information from the database and in interpreting output.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
Requirements
- You must be a U.S. Citizen or National
- Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation
- You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable
- If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
- You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.
Qualifications
Applicants must possess and demonstrate in their application packages that they meet the following minimum qualifications:
GS-05: To be eligible at the GS-05 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04.
Specialized experience is defined as performing clerical and administrative support duties; performing the entry of data into the electronic file and case tracking systems; assisting with conducting periodic file reviews; locating and correcting data entry errors; filing completed documents in appropriate locations.
OR
Education: Four years of education above high school leading to a bachelor's degree in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the prerequisite. One year of full-time study is defined as 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) or the equivalent or 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for 36 weeks in business, secretarial or technical school.
OR
Combination of education and specialized experience: Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.
GS-06: To be eligible at the GS-06 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05.
Specialized experience is defined as experience updating and extracting of legal data; researching a variety of legal sources to obtain and/or verify information; reviewing reports to identify recurring errors; identifying errors of documents or case records; and using automated software to produce legal related reports, documents, correspondence, and related materials.
GS-07: To be eligible at the GS-07 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level.
Specialized experience is defined as experience using advanced automation techniques to extract legal data from automated databases; conducting periodic case certification reviews; utilizing knowledge of legal terminology, litigation processes and court proceedings to properly docket and identify errors in either input of documents or in the computer record; recommending revision of office procedures to improve the docketing and case management function.
Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
