The John D. Dingell VA Medical Center is recruiting for a Supply Technician.

Duties

Duties include: Reviews existing stock and manufacturers' catalogs, manuals and listings to obtain substitute or interchangeable items to supply in lieu of items requisitioned. Works with customers and SCM staff on the proper identification of items to be substituted. Communicates with customers and vendors to obtain information regarding availability and functionality of non-expandable equipment and supplies. Through periodic inventory assessments and discussions with service line staff and clinical personnel, identifies gaps and/or discrepancies and provides information on new or changed items and equipment. Provides guidance to customers on identification of material through research of original equipment manufacturers part catalog for part numbers, descriptions, and size of parts needed. Performs research of old manufacturers code and part numbers, covering requisitioned material in support of jobs which have not occurred, or which did not utilize all the stock on hand to identify valid identification number. Reviews assigned manufacturers code and part numbers for continued validity and takes necessary action to update, delete. or dispose of in accordance with published guidelines. Interacts with clinical and administrative customers to ensure issues and needs are identified and either resolved or escalated to supervisors or Inventory Management Specialists as needed. Communicates to the lead or supervisor any concerns related to supplies, equipment and procedures, providing information as needed orally or in writing regarding customer or external stakeholder issues, general telephone inquiries and visitor referrals. Coordinates drop off of new or transferred equipment and pick up of turn in equipment: scanner pick up and drop off for annual Ell inventory; and delivery times and area with contractors and vendors with other VA activities, contractors or manufacturers through personal transactions. Reviews numerous computer output listings in the performance of research and identification of supplies as well as prepares system inquires and interpret the responses. Receives non-expendable equipment and material into the VA Health Care System and supported catchment area Unpacks/uncrates supplies from shipping cartons and properly scans, bar codes, and stores supplies and material. Stores items in accordance with established guidelines, utilizing a computerized inventory system, to ensure integrity of the supplies and material and the data integrity of the inventory management system. Position coordinates receiving problems such as substitutions, incorrect quantities, with the appropriate inventory manager. Distributes items according to established or ad hoc requirements in computerized system of record systems to include but not limited to AEMS/MERS, SOARD/Maximo or similar non-expendable NX inventory management system. Delivers equipment in a timely and accurate manner, ensuring equipment and material delivered are in operational condition. Deliveries will be to service lines and other secondary locations that may be in remote sites. Processes receipt and turn-in transaction to record in the equipment system of record and account for incoming materiel. Position will support the service lines with annual Ell inventory requirements. As needed, assists in other functional areas of the Section and performs other duties as assigned. Delivery of equipment and supplies by motor vehicle may be required. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/29/2023. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: providing equipment and material to clinical and administrative areas of a health care facility; scanning, bar-coding, receiving, storing and distributing equipment and related material; utilizing an automated system to maintain equipment records; and answering customer questions regarding non-expandable equipment and materials.. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 4 years of education above high school in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education was obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. (Transcript Required). OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education. Only education in excess of 60 semester hours (2 years) is creditable. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED). The incumbent of this position must possess a valid drivers license. Delivery of equipment and supplies by motor vehicle may be required. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work requires standing and walking during the entire workday, and frequent reaching, bending and lifting of supply packages (occasionally weighing as much as 50 pounds). With proper assistance, moves heavier items weighing over 40 pounds. This level of physical demands occurs, for example, when employees are regularly assigned to activities such as tracing misplaced items or conducting physical inventories in warehouses, and other storage areas, or when they are regularly involved in stocking and retrieving items from shelves and cabinets. Work is performed throughout the HCS and supported catchment areas. which includes wards, storage buildings, and warehouses that range from a clean environment to hot, cold, drafty, and poorly lighted. Work requires maintaining a clean environment while performing tasks that can produce dust or other infectious pollutants while transitioning between environments.
