About the Position: Serves as a Security Assistant for the National Museum of the United States (NMUSA). Performs a full range of duties to include applying security processes and procedures for a facility with emphasis on and not limited to, access control, camera monitoring, security systems, and key control and badging.

Duties

Provides safeguards for the protection of US Government physical and historical property to prevent theft and vandalism. Provides routine information, referring visitors to appropriate staff members for specific action. Implements procedures designed to safeguard Army property, historical artifacts and Army personnel. Greet visitors, conduct bag checks, operates stationary or hand help magnetometers, and x-rays, to detect prohibited items and determines their eligibility to access the facility. Controls access to the facilities and manages access badges.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Position is subject to shift changes based on mission requirements, e.g. Day - Swing ? Mids, nights, weekends, and holidays to include overtime.
  • This position has been designated as a Mission Essential (ME) position. The incumbent must continue to perform ME duties until relieved by proper authority. Incumbent may be required to participate in readiness exercises.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes monitoring security systems such as closed circuit cameras and intrusion alarms; and managing access to facilities. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Access Control OperationsOral Communication Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
