About the Position: Serves as a Traffic Management Specialist for the Surface Deployment and Distribution Command (SDDC). Responsible for developing and maintaining high customer satisfaction levels by ensuring SDDC's performance meets or exceeds customer expectations, and to maintain that SDDC is the preferred transportation service provider. Assists to perform a nationwide mission to the Command's customers' as a personalized representative for issue related to transportation services.
Duties
Develops and presents to leadership a variety of metrics used to validate effectiveness of freight routing functions, audit usage of TPS throughout the enterprise, show cost avoidance, or other data as requested.
Ensures value-added and customer-focused transportation services are provided in accordance with Department of Defense (DOD) directives and contracts.
Performs a variety of tasks to support higher level specialists, subordinate commands and activities such as responding to customer inquiries to resolve transportation issues involving the effective movement and delivery of cargo.
Recommends process improvements for future planning.
Maintains statistics and historical data on completed shipments to include cost savings.
Serves as Intermediary between shipper system requests and Transportation Service Prover rating and ranking process.
Validates appropriate Transportation Protective Services required, realizing significant cost savings to DOD.
Performs transportation automation planning and functional system requirements management for the Global Freight Management System and other freight-automated systems.
Requirements
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- Position may require incumbent to work nonstandard duty hours (e.g., shifts, weekends, holidays, overtime-both scheduled and unscheduled).

To Qualify for the GS-11:
Specialized Experience:
One year of specialized experience which includes:
Participating in the traffic program involving operating transportation systems to provide common carrier types of service to shippers.
Conducting analysis of commodity movements for new transportation services.
Analyzing and comparing rates and modes for movement of freight.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
OR
Education:
Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in accounting, business administration, business or commercial law, commerce, economics, engineering, finance, industrial management, statistics, traffic management, transportation, motor mechanics, or other fields related to the position.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience:
A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

GS-11 Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
