The purpose of this position is to provide initial patient screening, registration, and administrative services by assisting with direct patient care that involves specialized medical procedures of a routine nature according to established clinical protocol. Incumbent is a member of the Health Care Team. This position is located at Chinle Service Unit, Division of Nursing Services - Emergency Room Department, Chinle, Arizona.
Duties
Assist with direct patient care procedures (checking in patients, taking vital signs, preparing charts, etc.).
Assist with routine specialized procedure of venipuncture, injections (immunizations), electrocardiograms and sterile dressing changes.
Assist with sterile procedures of sutures, insertion of chest tubes, spinal taps, pelvic exams and physical exams and clean procedures of cast application.
Clean, arranges, and restock supply cabinet.
Maintain and assist with patient referral to outside facilities.
Participates in committees and meetings.
Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
GS-4: 6 months of general AND 6 months of specialized experience.
General Experience: (l) Any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation.
Specialize experience examples: take and record vital signs, schedule appointments, maintain security and confidentiality of data and information.
GS-5: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 grade level.
Specialize experience examples Include: determining patient assessment, distinguishing between normal and abnormal findings, and administering intervention as prescribed by the provider, typical of medical assistant or health education positions.
OR Substitution of education for experience:
GS-4: 2 years of education above high school that includes at least 12 semester hours in subjects related to the position.
GS-5: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subject directly related to the position.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
