About the Position: This position is located at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Onslow County is situated on the east coast of North Carolina and is the proud home of US Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, the largest amphibious Marine base in the world. Onslow County Schools is the 11th largest district in the state of North Carolina with over 27,000 students currently enrolled and 39 educational facilities.

Duties

Operates a passenger bus with an approximate gross vehicle weight up to 30,000 pounds and with passenger capacity ranging from 44 to 72 students. Provides safe and efficient transportation for students to and from school. Assists in the loading and unloading of children with special needs and their equipment, as well as assisting these students in getting to and from their classrooms. Responsible for the general cleaning of the bus to include cleaning inside of the bus daily and washing exterior of the bus once a month. Reports all disciplinary action to the school principal and the DOA. Conducts maintenance and safety checks on the school bus prior to beginning all routes. Records school bus route and schedule on the trip ticket. Reports problems to the designated government representative (DOR).

Requirements

• Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Requirement.
• Proof of U.S. Citizenship required.
• Direct deposit of pay is required.
• One or two year trial or probationary period may be required.
• Appointment subject to a suitability/fitness determination, as determined by a background investigation.
• This position requires a Tier 1 (T1) investigation with Childcare Checks since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age.
• This position is a Testing Designated position subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. You will be required to sign a DA Form 5019 requiring participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
• A pre-placement medical examination is required.
• This position requires a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements to include a state Bus Certification.
• Incumbent must be able to pass a pre-employment driving test given by management in a vehicle such as a 12-18 passenger vehicle or a full sized school bus.
• Must have a safe driving record.
• Incumbent must be able to obtain a Government operator's permit.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Motor Vehicle Operator without more than normal supervision. To meet the screen out element, applicants should document experience or show the ability to do the following: operation of passenger vehicles to include safe driving skills and the ability to detect mechanical problems. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
