This position is part of the Organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The incumbent serves as a Nuclear Arms Control Treaty Analyst and lead senior military policy representative in the negotiation and implementation of assigned nuclear arms control treaties and agreements for the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START), future nuclear arms control agreements/treaties, other multi- or bilateral Weapons of Mass Destruction treaties, and in other related international forums.

Duties

As a NUCLEAR ARMS CONTROL TREATY ANALYST at the GS-0301-14 some of your typical work assignments may include: Serves as the primary subject matter expert (SME) on assigned nuclear arms control agreements/treaties implementation and compliance; Reviews higher-level written guidance dealing with nuclear arms control treaties or agreements for consistency, clarity, and potential impact to military operations; Uses analytical tools at both technical and policy levels to assess, evaluate, and develop solutions to treaty compliance issues that are complex, broad in scope, and highly sensitive; Assists senior military officials in providing military advice to the President and Secretary of Defense; Develops, advises, and coordinates on nuclear arms control initiatives and policy in the interagency and represents the senior military officials on United States nuclear arms control delegations to international venues; Prepares communications for the senior military officials to a wide array of audiences on complex issues, both national and international, internal, and external to the U.S. Government

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-14, if you fulfill the following qualifications: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service: Serving as a policy representative for applicable Treaties and Agreements to assess compliance and review guidance for senior military officials; Briefing complex issues during interagency and international meetings on policy for senior leaders; Assisting in the preparation of Congressional testimony regarding national security, defense policy or risk assessment; Applying U.S. military command structure and organizational relationships with other programs and key administrative support functions within the military organizations are represented in the development of joint nuclear arms controls treaty/agreement and emerging policies. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
