The Chalmers P. Wylie VA Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio is recruiting for two Advanced Medical Support Assistants in Dental Service.

Duties

The duties of this position include, but are not limited to: Scheduling, canceling, and re-scheduling patients' appointments and/or referrals. Entering no-show information. Monitoring the electronic wait list. Preparing for clinic visits. Monitoring outpatient appointments for areas of responsibility. Coordinating with the patient care team to review the clinic utilization by using various reports. Developing and maintaining effective and efficient communication with the patient, dental team, VA medical centers, and other agencies. Participating in team huddles and team meetings to manage and plan patient care. Working with the team to reinforce the plan of care and self-help solutions and entering appropriate information into the electronic record. Monitoring pre-appointment requirements to assure readiness for patient visit/procedures. Participating and providing input in problem solving on operational issues or procedures in team meetings. Participating in and independently following up on team huddles by sharing information and collaborating with the dental team to assure continuity of care. Evaluating patient information and clinic schedule lists to determine whether patient is eligible. Educating providers about shared patients and bringing to the attention of the provider. Working to meet the needs of customers while supporting VA missions. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; Tour of duty negotiable. Telework: Not Available Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Experience and Education: Experience. Six months experience of clerical, office, customer service, or other administrative work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position; OR, Education. One year above high school; OR, Experience/Education Combination. Equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable. English Language Proficiency: MSAs must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, Section A, paragraph 3.j. Grade Determination: Medical Support Assistant (Advanced), GS-6 In addition to the Basic Qualifications you must also meet the qualification requirements of the GS-6 grade level for the position. Experience: One year of experience equivalent to the GS-5 grade level. Examples of experience include but are not limited to: answering phones, greeting patients, relaying messages to appropriate staff inside or outside of the unit, scheduling appointments, interpreting and verifying provider orders in accordance with scheduling guidelines; re-scheduling patient appointments and/or consults; entering no-show information; monitoring appointment requests from multiple electronic sources; and, verifying and updating demographics and insurance information when patients check-in for appointments. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. Candidates must demonstrate all of the KSAs below: i. Ability to collaborate and communicate with a wide range of medical clinicians across multiple disciplines (e.g. medical doctors, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, clinical pharmacists, and nursing staff to accomplish team goal setting to ensure medical care to patients is met. ii. Ability to independently set priorities and organize work to meet deadlines, ensuring compliance with established processes, policies, and regulations. iii. Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively, electronically, by phone, in person, and in writing, with internal and external customers. This may include preparing reports in various formats and presenting data to various organizational levels, as well as resolving patient concerns. iv. Advanced knowledge of the technical health care process including, but not limited to, scheduling across interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery and/or care in the community models and patient health care portals as it relates to access to care. v. Advanced knowledge of policies and procedures associated with interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery and/or care in the community operational activities that affect patient flow, and patient support care administrative functions to include, but not limited to appointment cycles, outside patient referrals, follow-up care, overbooking, provider availability, etc. vi. Advanced knowledge of medical terminology due to the technical nature of language utilized by clinicians. There is no educational substitution for experience at the GS-6 grade level References: The Advanced Medical Support Assistant position is primarily sedentary with occasional periods of standing, walking, and bending while filing, carrying office supplies, and/or escorting Veterans and/or their paperwork to different clinical areas. The Advanced Medical Support Assistant's work is performed in an outpatient clinic setting, which may include contact with patients having acute and chronic conditions, including psychiatric conditions.
