This position is located in the Informal Learning Office, Center for Learning, Literacy and Engagement, Office of the Librarian. Eight to ten years of professional experience in a leadership role managing learning and community engagement initiatives and strategies in a museum or similar cultural nonprofit setting is required.

Duties

This position is located in the Center for Learning, Literacy and Engagement (CLLE) within the Office of the Librarian at the Library of Congress. CLLE includes the following offices: Informal Learning and Engagement, Library Events Office, Literary Initiatives, Professional Learning and Outreach Initiatives, Signature Programs Office, and Visitor Engagement. This position serves as Chief of Informal Learning and Engagement(CILE) and reports to the Director of Learning, Literacy and Engagement. The incumbent supervises administrative employees at the GS-12 and below, and a subordinate supervisor at the GS-13.

Qualifications

Applicants must have had progressively responsible experience and training sufficient in scope and quality to furnish them with an acceptable level of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position without more than normal supervision. Ability to apply knowledge of informal learning program leadership, management and oversight. ** Ability to build strategic collaborations, partnerships and outreach. ** Ability to supervise and lead a diverse workforce. ** Ability to provide advice and guidance. ** Knowledge of organizational mission, programs, regulations, and goals. ** Ability to administer an informal learning program. Ability to present information orally through briefings and other presentations. Ability to communicate in writing. Ability to communicate effectively other than in writing.

Education

Basic Requirements:

  1. Degree: that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position.

    or

  2. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in A above.

Foreign Education – Education completed outside the U.S. must be deemed equivalent to conventional/accredited U.S. education programs to be acceptable for Federal employment. If your college/university is outside the U.S., your transcripts must be accompanied by a report from a credential evaluation service that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or the Association of International Credentials Evaluators (AICE). Failure to submit a foreign education evaluation report will result in disqualification of your application.
