The Program Support Assistant (PSA) for Social Work Service (SWS) provides administrative and programmatic assistance to the all service programs within Social Work Service employees. He/she will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing the assigned clerical and administrative support requirements of various aspects of the team. He/she reports directly to the Administrative Officer or his or her designated.
Duties
Duties Include:
Plans, directs, organizes and coordinates administrative services for Social Work Services.
Implements methods and procedures, which facilitate program completion of administrative and clinical responsibilities with minimum expenditures of time.
Accomplish assignments and insure deadlines are met in a timely manner.
Uses software programs such as MS Work, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Access, Internet and VHA databases to prepare reports, correspondence and other materials.
Searches, extracts and organizes data, produces reports, and prepares a variety of working documents such as spreadsheets, instructions, training guides, etc.
Ability to compile data that provide statistical analysis and establishes relationships between separate functions and program data.
Assists clients and customers to assess their needs, provide information or assistance and resolve issues.
Provides customer friendly administrative support services to patients and clinical staff that is quick and efficient.
Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm, subject to change based on the needs of the facility.
Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. This position may be authorized for telework. Telework eligibility will be discussed during the interview process.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/25/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Experience in decision-making, quick thinking, and rational judgment based on policies, procedures, regulations, and sound principles of the Service and health care administration; experience preparing Service Line reports, analyses, responses, Action Plans, letters from members of Congress and community partners in current, appropriate formats and language for the Service; experience using electronic systems to gather, review, input, update, access, organize, process, and to maintain information for use in litigation and/or to accomplish time or case management functions; experience with Internal Action Items, routing and Memo preparation for documents flowing to Executive Leadership from Service; experience using grammar, syntax, spelling, formal VA correspondence writing, and business correspondence; experience using Organization and Service functions, policies, procedures, regulations that apply to Service, SLVHCS and office operations; and experience interacting effectively with staff members, leadership, and service population to ensure timely and effective communication and service delivery. Require mature, complex, in-depth administrative knowledge and managerial skills in the management and administration of a large clinically based Social Work Service.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
