You will serve as a SUPERVISORY FIRE PROTECTION INSPECTOR in the Fire Prevention Branch at one of the four installations listed.

Duties

You will assist with the development and direction of a fire prevention program consistent with standard publications and local policies to maintain a fire safe environment for fire protection of life and property. You will review plans and conducts on-site inspections of all areas of facilities to ensure compliance of codes and accepted practices. You will regularly schedule fire inspections for each activity. You will provide maintenance of records of hazards and follow-up inspections. You will inspect hazards such as welding and cutting, transfer of fuels, explosives, dangerous gases, etc. You will coordinate inspections with the fire protection engineer during annual inspections. You will prepare local directives and correspondence relating to the fire protection program. You will attend pre-construction conferences with contractors. You will assist in ordering, storing and inventorying all equipment/supplies used by fire inspectors.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver?s license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to participate in the DoD/DON physical fitness program.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Applying knowledge of national, DoD, Navy & local fire codes, standards, regulations, and instructions in order to interpret and apply applicable codes to detect and eliminate fire & life safety hazards; 2) Selecting the applicable code or standard relevant to particular types of facilities and hazards, type of construction and other variables; 3)Analyzing and interpreting codes & standards to make compliance determinations; 4) Utilizing oral communications and public speaking ability to provide fire and life safety training and events; 5) Writing reports, case notes, briefings, instructions & regulations, and written correspondence and; 6) Conducting post-fire investigation cause and origination techniques and theory. Qualifications vary based on if position is 40 hour or 56 hour. 40 hr - employee is considered Furlough eligible (non-mission essential), & Telework eligible (adhoc/situational): must have the following certs: HZMAT Awareness, Instructor I, Inspector II, CPR, and 1st Aid. 56 hr - employee is considered furlough excepted, mission essential, & telework eligible (adhoc/situational): must have the following certs: FFII, HZMAT Ops, HZMAT Incident Commander, Inspector II, Instructor I, CPR, 1st Aid (or EMT) Additional qualification information can be found from the following Office of Personnel Management website:https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/0000/fire-protection-and-prevention-series-0081/ Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).
