About the Position: Serves as an Engineering Technician with Fort Drum Directorate of Public Works.
This is a Term position not-to-exceed 30-SEP-2024. A Term position may be extended to a maximum of 8 years depending upon the needs of management. Contingent to specific conditions, individual(s) selected for this Term position may be eligible for conversion to a
career-conditional or career appointment at a later date.
Duties
Identify database discrepancies such as: anomalies, duplications, and non-conformance to established standards and Quality Assurance Plans (QAPs).
Research advances in areas such as spatial data management, Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD), surveying, Geographic Information System (GIS) and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) operations.
Establish methods/procedures involving the format and manipulation of large geographic databases.
Develop digital Geographic Information System (GIS) models in the areas of facilities, roads, utility infrastructure, site development and selection, and installation operations.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical examination, as well as annual physical examinations.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state issued motor vehicle operator's license.
- Must be willing and able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Term employment is subject to a one-year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1.) Preparing draft Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) drawings for civil, geotechnical, structural, mechanical, or electrical designs; 2.) Using a Geographic Information System (GIS) to create draft surface maps; and 3.) Collaborating with internal/external customers on computer-aided/engineering projects. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the Federal service (GS-10).
