This position is located in DHS/USCG, COMMANDANT, VICE COMMANDANT (CG-09), DEPUTY COMDT FOR OPERATIONS (CG-DCO), MARINER EVAL DIV in Martinsburg, WV.
Duties
As a Legal Instruments Examiner (LIE), you will serve as the senior specialist in the MCP and provides technical expertise, guidance, and customer support to the Mariner Training and Assessment Division, Professional Qualification Evaluations (PQE), Safety and Suitability Evaluations (SSE), Customer Service Operations, Course Oversight Auditing (COA), Credential Production, to staff members or other supporting roles at the NMC.

- A one-year probationary period may be required.
Qualifications
At the GS-06 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the federal service.
Specialized experience is the experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include:
Ability to utilize multiple complex databases.
Understand applicants' credential requests and submissions, familiarity with regulatory and internal resources, as well as written and verbal communication skills.
At the GS-07 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-6 grade level in the federal service.
Specialized experience is the experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include:
Working knowledge of the US Coast Guard merchant mariner professional requirements and credentialing procedures, with a full understanding of regulatory resources sufficient to properly apply compiled information to MCP guidelines to determine the applicant’s qualification to be issued a mariner credential.
National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
