About the Position:
This is a permanent Accounting Technician position for the USACE Finance Center, in the Directorate of Finance Billing & Collections Division Disbursing Branch in Millington, TN. This is a developmental position starting at a GS-06. The incumbent's work will be supervised and get progressively more difficult until incumbent reaches full performance at the GS-08.

Duties
Reconcile outstanding transactions to general ledger accounts.
Implement accounting procedures to process difficult accounting transactions using an automated system or non-automated system.
Demonstrate exceptional customer service with both internal and external customers.
Implement policies related to appropriation process for the organization.
Reconcile general accounts that are affected by a number of appropriations and allotments.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must obtain Level I Financial Management Certification within 24 months of entrance on duty.

For the GS-06:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing work that involves processing a wide variety of accounting transactions to verify their accuracy and completeness of accounting data; and identifying discrepancies among accounts and making necessary adjustments; and complying with internal control procedures.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

I have successfully completed a half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Accounting, or related field of study.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
GS-07:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience with automated or non-automated accounting systems and experience with accounting transactions to balance and reconcile reports. And experience with researching accounting transaction to detect and correct errors in prior transactions.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Accounting or related field of study.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
GS-08:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience in generally accepted accounting principles and techniques; and experience with automated financial management systems AND analyzing numerous accounts in multiple accounting systems.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07)

Education: One and a half years of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Accounting or related field of study
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond one year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
