About the Position: Incumbent serves as Paramedic, First responder and on-site member of an emergency response team (ERT) of an assigned Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) OR Medical Center (MC) with responsibility for the Emergency Response Team/Paramedic mission in support of a military installation.

Duties
Provide a combination of technical (nonprofessional medical) and administrative tasks related to the Advance Life Support (ALS) treatment and care of patients in an emergency environment inside and outside the MTF/MC emergency room setting.
Perform with an expanded scope of practice under medical direction as an advanced life support paramedic in the emergency department when not assigned to an ambulance.
Conduct intake procedures obtains general medical information, including allergies and drug sensitivities; and takes and records vital signs.
Recognizes, stabilizes, and provides emergent health care to a range of patients presenting with complex or multiple emergency systems dysfunctions.
Act as liaison between patients and the primary professional medical care provider.
Requirements

- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
- This is a mandatory drug testing position.

- Incumbent is required to have and maintain a valid, unrestricted State Emergency Medical Technician license at all levels.
- Incumbent is required to have and maintain a valid National Registry Emergency Medical Technician Basic (NREMT-B) certification; Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) advanced certification; and/or Paramedic Certification (NRP).
- Incumbent is required to have and maintain a current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) for Healthcare Providers certification.
- Incumbent is required to have and maintain a current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
- Incumbent is required to have and maintain a current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
- Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain NIMS ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800 level training within six months of hire.
- Work is subject to rotating shifts and/or irregular tour of duty to include weekends, nights, and/or holidays.
- Incumbent may be required to work on any day or shift, including rotating shifts and/or irregular tour of duty to include weekends, nights, and/or holidays.
- The employee may be recalled to duty from scheduled time off.
- May be required to assume essential personnel status during inclement weather/emergencies.
- Position requires employee to wear a uniform and/or protective clothing.
- This position requires the employee drive a motor vehicle and successfully pass an Army approved defensive driving certification course. An appropriate, valid driver's license is required and must be maintained for the position.
- A Childcare Background Check is required.
- This position is covered by Health Affairs Policy 97006, 23 Oct. 96, which requires the employee to obtain Hepatitis B Immunization unless exempted by a physician.
- Incumbent may be required to perform duties in a hazardous chemical environment and is subject to a medical clearance examination.

Specialized Experience GS-08: One year of specialized experience which includes responding to emergencies; patient assessments; providing emergency medical interventions and care; and transporting ill and/or injured patients.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.
For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone - no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Unrestricted State Emergency Medical Technician license or Paramedic license (candidate cannot be credentialed in the facility without a license)
