About the Position: Supervises a staff of Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) and Paramedics. Ensures that the work of the shift is organized and scheduled to assure expeditious handling of emergencies that may occur over course of the assigned shift. Paramedics will perform both basic and advanced life support emergency medical treatment to provide the most extensive pre-hospital care.

Duties
Supervises a staff of Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) and Paramedics.
Ensures that the work of the shift is organized and scheduled to assure expeditious handling of emergencies that may occur over course of the assigned shift.
Performs or assists in invasive, advanced life support procedures.
Assures uniform application of administrative and operating policies and procedures.
Monitors operations and quality of Emergency response.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must pass urinalysis testing as required prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Child background check (CNACI).
- All employees assigned to a MTF are required to be screened for applicable immunizations.
- The incumbent of this position must be able to work on a scheduled, rotating or on-call basis to include working other than normal duty hours such as evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
- The employee may be required to work overtime to include weekends and federal holidays, out of cycle, or unscheduled training or on an emergency basis.
- The employee may be recalled to duty from scheduled time off.
- This position is covered by Health Affairs Policy 97006, 23 Oct. 96, which requires the employee to obtain Hepatitis B Immunization unless exempted by a physician.
- Must be able to pass a preemployment physical and random physical throughout employment.
- This position is inclement weather essential. Incumbent must make every attempt to report for duty on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
- This position requires the employee drive a motor vehicle and a valid state driver's license is required and must be maintained for the position.
- Position requires employee to wear a uniform and/or protective clothing.
- Current and maintain Basic Life Support (CPR) Card.
- Current and maintain Cardiac Advanced Cardiac Life Support Card.
- Current and maintain Pediatric Advance Life Support Card.
- Must have to have a state level licensure.
- Current and maintain National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) certification.
- Must serve a one-year Supervisory probationary period if not previously completed.
Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service which includes directing subordinates on workload; spot checking work in accordance with established policies and procedures; provide on the job training to new employees; respond to medical emergencies involving injury/illness; operate emergency and patient transport vehicle; have experience working in a medical facility/Emergency Department.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
