You will serve as a ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION SPECIALIST in the Occupational Safety, Health and Environmental Office (OSHE) of TRIDENT REFIT FACILITY, BANGOR (TRFB).

Duties

You will review, analyze, and recommend modifications to existing environmental programs and practices while applying environmental engineering concepts, principles, and practices associated with the environmental programs. You will evaluate the need for additional or improved facilities and personnel development pursuant to applicable local, state, and federal requirements. You will prepare reports, plans, local instructions/guidelines, and manuals. You will provide guidance to production stakeholders in regards to spill prevention, cleanup and mitigation efforts, determine spill sources and assists in development of appropriate corrective actions. You will perform periodic onsite inspections of facilities to determine compliance with applicable federal, state, and local environmental, hazardous materials, and waste standards. You will maintain liaison with professional/technical personnel at the various regulatory agencies to ensure proper interpretation of requirements and standards. You will provide support to other organizations to assist in planning or resolving compliance issues which also meet TRFB needs, such as hazardous waste generation/disposal and air/water pollution control measures. You will assist in developing and posting necessary permits, annual reports, inspection responses, and other routine correspondence with other applicable regulatory agencies.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • You must be willing and able to climb ladders and scaffolding.
  • You must be willing and able to work onboard ships.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You may be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • You may be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position requires exposure to high noise levels.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector evaluating environmental protection data and regulations to plan, implement, or monitor programs and services for the mitigation of actual or potential environmental hazards.
