About the Position: Serve as a Security Specialist for the US Army Medical Department Activity Command Group. The incumbent performs security functions to protect personnel, facilities, and Army assets against criminal or hostile activities, sabotage, unauthorized disclosure, espionage, natural disasters, and terrorism.
Duties
Utilizes physical security equipment to maintain the security posture of assigned organization.
Assures organization personnel are adhering to established physical security policies and practices.
Oversees all aspects of the Childcare Background Check program to assure all personnel security requirements are met.
Submits background investigation reports to determine security eligibility of personnel within organization.
Conducts annual reviews of operation security procedures to ensure compliance with existing regulations.
Briefs organization employees on the protection of classified information.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent of this position must obtain the core SPeD Certification: Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) within first two years of employment, additional details noted below under qualifications section.
- This position requires you to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- This position requires up to 10% temporary duty (TDY) away from the permanent duty location.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- Incumbent is required to utilize designated mode of transportation, generally government vehicle or privately owned vehicle, in traveling from one place to another.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes includes (1) evaluating security measures to ensure compliance with established security policies and procedures; (2) utilizing an automated security system to maintain data (3) assisting in the implementation of controls to protect the physical security of an organization; and (4) utilizing personnel security clearance procedures to initiate background checks. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Public Safety, Criminal Justice, Emergency Management, Cyber Security.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
