Duties

This position is located in the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Maryland. The incumbent actively supports civil and/or criminal litigation teams by performing a variety of eLitigation support tasks necessary to prepare or manage electronic discovery, evidence, exhibits, and other electronically stored information relevant to investigations and casework, using a variety of methods and software applications. Typical Duties: If selected for this position, typical work assignments will include: Providing technical and analytical assistance to support the litigation needs of the United States Attorney's Office; Performing a variety of litigation support functions necessary to prepare, organize, index, develop, and manage exhibits, evidence and data in civil and criminal cases and matters; Preparing and organizing exhibits for court proceedings, which involves audio/video, transcripts, documents and visual materials, including charts, diagrams, photographs and models; Managing complex electronically stored information (ESI); Processing ESI using appropriate tools (e.g., LAW Prediscovery, NUIX); and Training legal support staff on use of processing software, tools, and equipment used in performance of duties. Requirements

  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation

Qualifications

GS-09 To be eligible at the GS-9 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education OR a combination of Education and Experience. Specialized Experience One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience performing the following types of duties: performing a variety of automated support necessary in preparing, organizing, indexing, developing and managing exhibits, evidence and data relevant to cases presented for a jury, grand jury or other legal proceeding; providing technical assistance to litigation teams on legal automation requirements and systems capabilities to facilitate litigation decisions and trial preparation. OR Education One of the following types of education in a related field (e.g., Information Technology, Computer Science, Law, Criminal Justice): a Master's or equivalent graduate degree (such as an LL.B. or J.D.); OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. Education at the graduate level must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. OR Combining Education and Experience Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be more than 1 full year. GS-11 To be eligible at the GS-11 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: specialized experience, education, OR a combination of education and experience. Specialized Experience One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level in the federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience providing technical advice to litigation teams on legal automation requirements and system capabilities to facilitate litigation decisions, trial preparation and trial presentation; applying knowledge of federal criminal and civil procedures, court requirements, and district practices to implement new and enhanced computer applications needed for criminal and civil cases; performing a wide range of information system analysis and development in support of district litigation support activities. OR Education One of the following types of education in a related field (e.g., Information Technology, Computer Science, Law, Criminal Justice): a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.M. Education at the graduate level must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. OR Combining education and experience Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. To qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be more than 2 full years. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
