You will serve as a NUCLEAR MECHANICAL INSPECTOR (SHIPS) LEADER in the Nuclear Inspections Division (Code 139) Specifically performing Non-Destructive testing in the Nuclear Weld School of the Quality Assurance Office at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, VA.
Duties
You will lead a crew of Nuclear Mechanical Systems inspectors (Ship).
You will perform weld joint in process and acceptance inspections for nuclear welding and non-destructive test (NDT).
You will perform mechanical, piping, and structural inspections, pre-arrival and material condition assessment inspections.
You will be working along with other inspectors and demonstrate proper work methods.
You will independently initiate and authorize rejection of workmanship, components, materials, and procedures that do not meet specifications by preparing a Nuclear Deficiency report.
You will maintain records of inspections performed, results of these inspections, and corrective action taken in accordance with local directives.

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications

Ability to utilize a wide array of highly sophisticated quality control inspection skills. Checking inspections while in progress of work and identifying causes of work delays. Working with fluid and mechanical systems. Applying knowledge of other skilled trades applying full journeyman level or higher experience in pipefitting, valve repair, welding, machining, or other closely related trades, interpreting diagrams, specifications, drawings, and interrelated procedure and technical requirements to most critical job applications.
Ability to possess expert electronic, electrical and electro-mechanical system knowledge and knowledge of other skilled trades such as electronics mechanic and marine electrician. Ability to interpret diagrams, specifications, drawings and interrelated procedures and technical requirements to most critical job applications.
Ability to perform surveillance of ongoing or completed work to ensure compliance; maintain records of inspections; ensure needed plans, material and tools are available; Ability to possess a wide array of highly sophisticated quality control inspection skills.
Ability to possess nuclear training and qualifications.
