About the Position: Serves as recognized expert in the specific program areas of Geospatial Information Systems (GIS), independently plans, coordinates, and carries out analytical and interpretive assignments of both Military and Civil Works programs IAW program policies.

Duties
Develop geo-referenced digital databases for further use as graphic thematic displays for further GIS statistical analysis.
Apply professional judgment, technical skills and knowledge in the analysis of GIS information.
Coordinate with engineers, planners, and other professionals to identify and develop GIS applications and to promote the technology.
Develop and train others in using procedures for geospatial data management and interchange.
Use computer software to maintain and update spatial information, such as, as-built drawings and outdated maps, avoiding delays in processing map revisions, inaccurate data records and summaries.
Coordinate and develop computer application software, routines, and macros to aid in data collection, editing, manipulating and generating of interim and final digital data and GIS product.
Plans, coordinates, collects, and processes remote sensing and photogrammetric data through the use of an small Unmanned Arial System (sUAS) or drone and it?s related software.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Basic Requirement for Geographer:
Degree: geography; or related physical or social science such as geology, meteorology, economics, statistics, sociology, anthropology, political science, history, cartography, computer science, urban studies, or planning that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields.
OR
Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in geography, or a related field that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes planning, researching, and implementing the full scope of investigative projects requiring application of geographic concepts, approaches, and a broad understanding of geographic relationships; identify and solve problems in processing procedures, and to verify overall consistency and validity of data and products.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
