This position is in the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center, 1300 Pennsylvania Ave., NW., Washington, DC, in the Office of Inspector General, Office of Management, Information Technology Division, (IG/IT), at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
Duties
The duties associated with this internship are
Work closely with the information security team, providing support, sharing knowledge, and contributing to team projects and initiatives.
Help identify and assess potential security vulnerabilities in computer systems, networks, and applications by conducting scans, tests, and analysis.
Assist in monitoring and analyzing security logs, alerts, and events to identify any suspicious or potentially malicious activities. Report and escalate any security incidents to the appropriate personnel.
Support the information security team in responding to security incidents, including investigating and containing incidents, documenting findings, and assisting with recovery and remediation efforts.
Stay updated with the latest trends, news, and technologies related to information security. Conduct research on emerging threats and help identify and evaluate potential security solutions or tools.
Collaborate with the information security team to develop and update security policies, guidelines, and procedures. Assist in ensuring compliance with relevant security standards, regulations, and best practices.
Assist in conducting security audits and assessments of systems, networks, and applications to identify vulnerabilities, assess controls, and make recommendations for improvements.
Participate in security risk assessments to identify and evaluate potential risks to the organization's information systems and data. Help analyze risks and recommend appropriate controls and mitigation strategies.
Requirements
- United States Citizenship is required.
- You must be at least 16 years old
- Actively enrolled at least half-time in an accredited educational institution.
- Good academic standing
- Must be able to pass a valid background check
- Continued enrollment in qualifying academic program for the duration of volunteer service
Qualifications
In addition to the Key Requirements listed in this announcement, the Student Volunteer must also posses the following qualities:
Ability to work well in a team environment
Ability to communicate orally and in writing to a variety of audiences
Excellent interpersonal skills
Ability to organize a variety of assignments simultaneously to meet deadlines.

Education

Student Status: Definition of a student- applicant must be enrolled in an accredited high school, technical or vocational school, two year or four year college or university, graduate or professional school. You must be considered in good academic standing. Individuals must be taking at least a half-time academic, vocational, or technical course leading to a degree, diploma, or certificate. "Half-time" is defined by the school in which the student is enrolled
