This position is part of the Organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The incumbent serves as a principal advisor to the CJCS, the DJ-3 and the DDNHDO/HHD on National Special Security Events, significant and domestic sporting events, exercises and incidents and Support to International Sporting Competition Defense funds while providing options to the J-36, DDNHDO/HHD and DJ-3 requiring time sensitive response to facilitate DoD support to significant special events.

Duties

As a SPECIAL EVENT MANAGER (PROJECT MANAGEMENT) at the GS-0301-14 some of your typical work assignments may include: Manages DoD resources, prepares time lines, researches and provides guidance and information, and coordinates with interagency and public-sector components to facilitate DoD support to assigned special events. Directs Combatant Commands, Military Departments, and DoD components to implement defense support to special events. Represents the Joint Staff while interfacing with Federal, state and local law enforcement, emergency management, and other government agencies, Congressional staffs, and private organizations to negotiate and plan DoD support, develop schedules and plans, execute and track projects, manage finances, and facilitate deliverables. Participates in emergency response operations for significant national emergencies, disasters, events, incidents, and exercises. Leads matrixed military, civilian, and contractor personnel while facilitating and executing DoD support to assigned significant international and domestic events. Directs the Joint Staff execution of DoD support to assigned international and domestic events, exercises, and incidents, such as the Olympics, Paralympics, Special Olympics, and National Special Security Events designated by the Secretary of Homeland Security with cradle to grave coverage. Manages and directs appropriated funds, military forces, distribution of DoD resources and assets, contracted products and services, and information sharing to ensure security, safety, and logistical functions for special events. Serves as senior Joint Staff representative to Federal Interagency partners (Departments of Homeland Security, State, Justice, and Interior), White House-level working groups, state and local government agencies, Congressional staffs, and private organizations. Performs Property Book Officer (PBO) functions, and provides advice to the CJCS, the DJ-3 and the DDNHDO/HHD on all matters related to the Special Events Warehouse Operations, property accountability and responsibility for Special Events specialized security and communications equipment in support of National Special Security Events (NSSE), significant and domestic sporting events, exercises and incidents while utilizing the Support to International Sporting Competition (SISC) Defense funds in providing options to the J-36, DDNHDO/HHD and DJ-3 requiring time sensitive delivery of specialized security and communications equipment to help and respond to facilitate DoD support to significant international, and domestic special events.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-14, if you fulfill the following qualifications: A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the13 grade level in the Federal service: Utilizes project management in the strategic planning and oversight of logistics, inventory management, property accountability and security for special events; Manages long range public events to include development, scheduling, coordinating, managing projects and resources, inspecting costs, work, and contractor performance; Develops innovative solutions to complex problems for national special security events and policy-making architecture utilizing knowledge of interagency stakeholders, negotiation techniques, strategic planning, and global terrorism; Applies conflict resolution to lead a matrixed team of military, civilian, and contract personnel to coordinate support operations with other federal agencies for Ceremonies and Special Events. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
